Explain to students that today they will be learning about blends and digraphs and using the stop and jot active reading strategy to understand and remember details after reading a new short story.
Remind students that good readers comprehend what they are reading. Call on a few volunteers to explain what the word comprehension means. Clarify thatcomprehensionmeans, "I understand what I read."
Ask students to stand up and repeat the following chant with movement:
Comprehension means I understand (touch head) what I read!
